123 oz. nugget found is Australia
A GOLD fossicker in Central Victoria has found himself an impressive early Christmas present, unearthing a nugget tipping the scales at nearly 3 kilograms.
The Central Goldfields Visitor Information Centre's co-ordinator, Anne Senior, said the fossicker had named the nugget "Slugger". She said the man, who did not want to be named, had been looking in the area for some time, and had brought the nugget into the centre to show staff. "It was absolutely beautiful - nice and shiny and gold, obviously," she said. "The man said that to a collector it would be worth about $150,000 but for the actual gold content it was around $100,000." The nugget, reported to weigh about 123 ounces (3489 grams) and found near Maryborough, is believed to be one of the largest unearthed in the Central Goldfields Shire in recent months. "People are finding quite a bit of gold around but you just hear the rumours when someone finds a big one," Ms Senior said. "No one wants any one else knowing or finding out about it, obviously for good reason." http://www.theage.com.au/news/nation...290547583.html |

$76,235.40 US @ $619.80. That is a lot of money, but unless I had a specific need I think I'd rather keep the nugget, at least for a while. I can always earn more money but you don't find something like that every day.

It is probably worth twice that for novelty.
Nice to find that in your rockpile. |
Re: 123 oz. nugget found is Australia
That would be a nice find for a HOBBIST.
I'd trade it for bullion - however. |

It was found with a metal detector. Wonder if a lot more metal detectors will be sold in the coming months. :bandit:
